Who We Are:
The Erik E. and Edith H. Bergstrom Foundation’s mission is to support organizations that improve the well-being of individuals and communities by providing education and access to a full range of high-quality contraceptive and abortions services. The Foundation carries out this work in the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and nine countries in East Africa (Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, and South Sudan).
The Bergstrom Foundation (BF) was built on the belief that human well-being, economic development, environmental protection, and reproductive rights are inextricably connected. The founders, Erik and Edith Bergstrom, believed that if we are to leave a just a thriving planet to future generations, individuals must have the means to decide when and whether to have children.
The Bergstrom Foundation is committed to working with organizations that safeguard and bolster the sexual and reproductive health and rights of under-serviced and marginalized populations. BF's work is grounded in four core values: Access to Education & Services, Trust-based Partnership, Equity, and Quality of Care.
The Foundation partners with large international organizations, like MSI Reproductive Choices, Fòs Feminista, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Ipas, PSI, DKT and others, as well as grassroots and growing NGOs throughout the geographic areas it works. BF makes grants of approximately $9 million annually, spanning 20 countries.
The Bergstroms
Erik and Edith Bergstrom's commitment to the well-being of the planet and those who live on it led to their founding of the Bergstrom Foundation. The work of the Foundation starts with trust in women to make responsible decisions about their lives, families, and reproductive health.
